Employer of choice
Essential work, supervision close by, and real doors open to what comes next.
Maintaining a building means delivering a service everyone depends on and few people notice. Offices ready on Monday morning, spotless washrooms in a healthcare facility, a parking lot cleared after a storm: behind each of those ordinary states, a team came through.
GSF Canada employs more than 500 people in Quebec and Ontario, from our establishments in Laval and Québec City. Our roles are open without a specialized diploma, and many of our managers started in the field. That reality shapes how we hire: we look for reliability, attention to detail and the will to do the job well more than a perfectly linear résumé.
In our trade, being an employer of choice is not settled by a campaign. It shows up in simple things: was the new employee welcomed and trained? Is their manager reachable? Is their schedule predictable? Were they offered something when a position opened up?
Those are the questions we want to be judged on. This page sets out what we commit to offering. Specific conditions — schedule, pay, benefits — depend on the role and the site, and are presented during the recruitment process.
Work that matters
Our teams work in offices, schools, healthcare facilities, plants, stores and aerospace sites. Cleaning and maintenance are operating conditions there: without them an operating room cannot run, a production line stops, a store loses customers. It is concrete work, and the result is visible at the end of the shift.
Supervision close to the field
Our Laval and Québec City establishments exist so that supervision stays near the work. Everyone knows who to turn to, and that person knows the building, the client’s instructions and the constraints of the schedule. We favour managers who walk the sites over managers who supervise from a distance.
- A named, reachable manager for every assignment.
- Supervisors present on site, not just reading reports.
- Site instructions explained before the first shift.
- A clear contact point when something unexpected comes up.
Respect as a working condition
Our trades are sometimes treated as invisible. We reject that. Respect for people — from managers, between colleagues, and in dealings with client staff — is an explicit expectation at GSF Canada. Harassment, intimidation and discriminatory remarks have no place here, and a concern raised with a manager has to be handled.
Safety and working conditions
Working at height, handling chemicals, moving through an active warehouse or clearing snow overnight requires clear instructions and suitable equipment. Our practices draw on applicable Quebec regulation, on product safety data sheets, and on each client’s rules. An instruction that was not understood gets explained again; it does not get worked around.
Onboarding and training from day one
A good first shift often shapes everything that follows. So we structure onboarding: introduction to the team and the site, walkthrough of methods and products, review of safety instructions, and support through the first interventions. Training paths are detailed on our Developing talent page.
Real paths forward
Internal advancement is not the exception here: team lead, technical specialty, multiservices coordination, supervision. Openings are offered first to people already on staff, and a promotion is prepared with support rather than announced overnight.
- Team lead and coordination roles opened internally.
- Technical and associated-services specializations.
- Support when moving into a new role.
- Mobility across sites and across sectors.
Teams that reflect Quebec
Our teams bring together people of widely varied backgrounds, ages, languages and origins, including people newly arrived in Quebec. Our approach to equity, diversity and inclusion is described in detail on its own page.
